Total independence is the national anthem of São Tomé and Príncipe, it was written by Alda do Espírito Santo, with music by Manuel dos Santos Barreto de Sousa e Almeida. The anthem was adopted shortly after the country gained the independence of Portugal, on July 12, 1975.
